HONORARY FREEDOM OF THE BOROUGH - LIEUTENANT COLONEL (Ret.) ERIC W DAVIDSON, M.B.E D.L; MR MICHAEL JOSEPH JELLEY AND MRS YVONNE MOORE B.E.M

To pass the following resolution:-

 

“1. That the Council, in exercise of its powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, admit Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Eric W Davidson, M.B.E D.L to the Honorary Freedom of the Metropolitan Borough in recognition of his outstanding work on behalf of local charities, including the organisation of the annual Poppy Appeal; and in recognition of his role, as a member of the Board of Directors, in assisting with the concept, development and successful management of the National Museum of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers; and in organising and managing the annual Gallipoli and Remembrance Sunday ceremonies, where he performs the key role of Parade Marshall.

 

2.  That the Council, in exercise of its powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, admit Mr Michael Joseph Jelley to the Honorary Freedom of the Metropolitan Borough in recognitionof his long and outstanding association with Bury Amateur Boxing Club and the positive impact this has had on the lives of young people who have passed through its ranks; and in recognition of the outstanding work undertaken with the Police and Probation services, as well as other agencies and individuals concerned with the welfare of young people, in providing support and mentoring.   

 

3. That the Council, in exercise of its powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, admit Mrs Yvonne Moore B.E.M to the Honorary Freedom of the Metropolitan Borough in recognition of her tireless work on behalf of Bury residents including the establishment of a Home Watch Scheme; the founding of the Old Hall Park Residents Association; chairing the Bury Metropolitan Community Twinning Association and promoting positive relations between Bury and its twin towns; and in recognition of her continuing support and fund raising efforts on behalf of local charities.

It was moved by Councillor Connolly and seconded by Councillor Gartside and:-

 

Resolved unanimously

 

That the Council, in exercise of its powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, admit Lieutenant Colonel (Retd.) Eric W Davidson MBE DL, to the Honorary Freedom of the Metropolitan Borough in recognition of his work and outstanding service to the communities of the Bury Metropolitan Borough of which the residents and Council are extremely grateful.

The worshipful the Mayor asked each to sign the Freeman’s Declaration and presented each with an illuminated Scroll and Medallion.
