DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

Councillor Members of the Youth Cabinet are asked to consider whether they have an interest in any item on the agenda and if so to formally declare that interest.

There were no declarations of interest made at the meeting.

That the Minutes of the last Meeting held on 11 September 2017 be approved as a correct record and signed by the Chair.

MATTERS ARISING

Minutes:

Harriet Potts referred to the agreement that had been made at a previous meeting of Youth Cabinet where it was agreed that the meetings would be as informal as possible. It had been decided that to help this no ties would be worn by anyone in attendance at the meetings.

 

Harriet asked if this could be reinforced.

 

Other Members of the Youth Cabinet explained that as the meetings were being held in the Council Chamber ties should be worn.

 

It was suggested that it was up to the individual whether they wore a tie or not.

MAKE YOUR MARK - UPDATE

Adele will report at the meeting

Minutes:

Adele reported that the Make your Mark campaign had been running from between mid August to 6 October 2017.

 

Schools across the borough had taken part and a vote had taken place to decide on the winning policy.

 

It was explained that the final announcement would be made sometime in the following week and Adele would inform everybody of the outcome.

YOUTH CABINET HOODIES/ SWEATSHIRTS

An update will be given at the meeting

Adele reported that the hoodie designs had been agreed and the final layout was available for those present to view.

 

It was hoped that the production would start soon and the hoodies would be available for Youth Cabinet Members soon.

TAKE OVER DAY BRIEF

Lisa will report at the meeting

Minutes:

Lisa explained that takeover day was a national event that was scheduled to take place on 24 November 2017.

 

The event would see you ng people across the country taking over a role for a day to see how people in different jobs work.

 

Lisa asked that if anybody was interested in taking part they contact her.

 

She also asked for suggestions on what roles people would like to see included in the day.

ANTI BULLYING WEEK PARTNERSHIP WORK UPDATE

Adele will give an update at the meeting

Minutes:

It was reported that the Council was taking part in some joint work with Salford Council in relation to ant-bullying.

 

The 13 – 17 November was anti bullying week and the partnership was looking to use social media to highlight the issues.

 

There would be the opportunity for 4 young people to go to Salford and help co-ordinate the campaign.

DEBATE

The Youth Cabinet are asked to decide on a debate topic, research the topic and then hold a debate.

Minutes:

The debate was held on whether the age at which people can vote at all elections should be lowered to 16.

 

Those present put forward reasons for lowering the age and for leaving it at 18.

 

Following the debate a vote was taken.

 

It was agreed:

 

That the voting age should be lowered to 16.

VOTE FOR VICE CHAIR

Minutes:

It was explained that the position of Vice Chair of the Youth Cabinet had not been taken up so was therefore available.

 

All those present were given the opportunity to put themselves forward for the role and give a talk on why they would be the ideal candidate.

 

A vote was taken and it was decided that Michael Thornton be nominated as Vice Chair of the Youth Cabinet.
