Councillor Members are asked to consider whether they have an interest in any matters on the agenda and, if so, to formally declare that interest.

It was reported that the elections for Bury’s Member of Youth Parliament had been held on 31 January 2019. There had been 8 candidates from across the borough and there had been 5655 votes cast across schools and colleges and Connexions in Bury.

The candidates were from across the borough and had run their own campaigns.

Emma Greenwood had been elected as the MYP for Bury and Josh Harcup and Elle-Sue Calderbank had been elected as deputy MYPs.

It was explained that the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority comprises of 40 young people representing 20 youth groups across Greater Manchester with half representing local Youth Councils/Cabinets and the other half representing youth organisations.

The Combined Authority was working towards providing a free bus pass for young people across Greater Manchester, the pass was currently called the opportunity pass.

The Youth Cabinet Members were asked to come up with possible names for the pass and ideas for how it should look.

Councillor Cathcart will report at the meeting.

Councillor Rhys Cathcart explained that as well as being a local Councillor for Radcliffe he was also employed as a team leader for Early Break. Part of his role within Early Break was to work with young people to educate them in relation to misuse of drugs and alcohol.

Mindfulness
Emotional Health & Wellbeing Groups
‘Fresh Start’ Anti Bullying

Councillor Cathcart held a workshop with those present at the meeting.

It was reported that there was an opportunity for 3 young people to become ambassadors for a scheme being run by Scottish Power called POSH – Pioneers of Sustainable Hope which was carrying out work in relation to the environment.

Those taking part would be expected to attend a number of meetings, and provide updates in relation to the scheme. The successful young people would also be invited to attend a residential event over the weekend of 26 – 28 April at Brathay.

Those interested in taking part were asked to give a short presentation and the Youth Cabinet members were asked to vote.

It was agreed:

That Rhiannon, Harriet and Aliyah be nominated as POSH Ambassadors.

It was explained that the election of the Youth Cabinet Chair and Deputy would be held at the next meeting of Youth Cabinet in April.

Those interesting in standing should prepare a short manifesto that can be presented at the meeting.
