BURY STRATEGY

Lynne Risdale Deputy Chief Executive of Bury Council and Chris Woodhouse gave a brief presentation to the Youth Cabinet on the Bury Strategy.

It was explained that a consultation was in the process of being carried out asking what the perfect Bury would look like in 2030 and what changes those present would make to get their perfect Bury.

It was reported that residents, visitors and groups as well as businesses and the Council’s partners were being asked to take part in the consultation. The consultation was available on line, through the council website, on social media as well as paper copies in public buildings, health centres, the markets and libraries.

All of the feedback would be brought together to input into a plan.

Lynne and Chris expressed an interest in seeking feedback and suggestions from the Youth Cabinet in the delivery paths for getting the message across the borough.

The Cabinet broke off into small groups and fed back to Lynne and Chris with their ideas.

The groups raised the following.

The perfect Bury would be:

  • Greener
  • No destruction of greenbelt

Harriet did not win but enjoyed the opportunity and met with other nominees.

Harriet explained that POSH were looking to change people’s attitude to fashion and ‘fast fashion’ by encouraging clothes swapping parties and events where young people could swap the clothes they no longer wore for their friends’ unwanted clothes. It was explained that 2 primary schools would be the pilot and this would then be rolled out to other schools. It was hoped that by removing the stigma associated with second hand, fewer clothes would be bought and fewer thrown away.
