The minutes of the previous meeting held on the 2 February 2022 were agreed and signed by the Chair.

 

Matters Arising from the minutes:

 

Eco Update - Heather reported that 16 Councillors gifted money for the green roofed bus stops from their discretionary grant fund. A total of £3421.91 was raised. Maddy had e-mailed Transport for Greater Manchester (TGM) to request permission for the project and is awaiting a response. The costing for the project is not yet know. A discussion took place around the location of the green roofed bus stop, suggestions were given as to a bus stop outside the Town Hall or outside The Rock.

 

UKYP Election - Heather Walton highlighted that there were 9303 votes cast for the UKYP election. The turn out for this election had been the highest turn out to date, at 46.5%. Heather explained how hard the young people had worked to prepare for the election.

 

It was agreed:

 

  1. To thank Councillors for their contributions to the green roofed bus stop project.

Minutes:

This item was withdrawn from the agenda.

Deputy Youth Mayor Elections

Minutes:

The Youth Members held an election for the Deputy Youth Mayor.

 

Oliver, Areeba, Daisy and Daniel gave a speech on why they feel that they should be elected as the Deputy Youth Mayor.

 

The Youth Members took part in a vote.

 

It was agreed:

 

  1. Daniel Lewis be elected as the Deputy Youth Mayor.

Regional Update

Minutes:

There were no regional updates.

 

Phoebe updated the Youth Members on a mini protest that will take place on 5th May at one of the polling stations in Bury, to raise awareness around voting at 16 years old.

Circles of Influence 2022

Minutes:

A discussion took place regarding the Circles of Influence Event 2022. It was suggested that the event should take place in the first week of July.

 

The Youth Members decided that there should be 6 circles at the event and the topics will be transport, education, health, violence, the environment and social. The Youth Members worked in group, discussing each circle and gave ideas of what they would like to be discussed at the event.

The Big Debate - should smoking be outlawed in UK

Minutes:

All Youth Cabinet Members took part in the debate.


A vote was held, and it was agreed by a majority vote that smoking should be outlawed in the UK.

 

It was agreed:

 

  1. The next debate would be around abolishing fee-paying schools.
