Youth members advised that in relation to the key findings:

Item 1 – The most pressing issue for young people is the need for better mental healthsupport in schools.

Youth members advised that they had met with Jane Case and Cathy Fines from the NHS to discuss mental health. It was suggested that awareness of where to get mental health support should be listed under the ‘young people’s ideas’ section of the form.

Item 2 – Young people feel they leave school without the skills needed to succeed in life.

Youth members suggested that first aid, driving and road safety, and CV help should be listed under the ‘young people’s ideas’ section of the form.

Item 3 – Young people want access to good advice and guidance.

Youth Members suggested that career support, appropriate behaviour and youth groups promoting wider activities be listed under the ‘young people’s ideas’ section of the form.

Item 5 – Young people feel unsafe in Bury and on public transport due to concerns about knife crime and youth violence.

Youth members suggested that informing people of who to contact when they have an issue and trying to reach ‘hard to reach’ communities should be listed under the ‘young people’s ideas’ section of the form.

Item 7 – Young People want to see more action to protect the environment and promote sustainable living.

Youth members suggested that informing young people about products should be listed under the ‘young people’s ideas’ section of the form.

Jeanette Richards provided Youth Cabinet with an update on what Bury Council will do with the information provided from the Circles of Influence Event. Jeanette explained that the plan will be taken to a partnership meeting on 27th September to review and hold to account the wider partnership around the important issues. Jeanette explained that the message needs to be taken out to the wider council teams to make the necessary changes and explained that there will be a meeting held in October where the entire focus will be on children’s issues.
