Councillor Members of the Youth Cabinet are asked to consider whether they have any interest in relation to any item on the agenda and if so to declare that interest.

It was agreed:

That the Minutes of the last meeting held on 26 September 2019 be approved as a correct record.

It was explained that the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Trevor Holt was supporting two Bury charities for his Mayoral Year. The charities are; Bury Hospice and Buddy’s for Children with Autism.

The Youth Cabinet were asked if they would like to help fundraise for the charities and if so how?

Those present agreed that they would like to do some fundraising and different options were discussed, including;

Tombola, car wash, dog wash, sponsored pyjama day, youth cabinet sleepover and a film festival at Radcliffe Market.

It was agreed:

That the Youth Cabinet would look to arrange some events early 2020.

It was reported that the Holocaust Memorial day was taking place on Thursday 23 January with a ceremony being held at the Longfield Suite in Prestwich from 7pm.

The theme for the ceremony was ‘Stand Together’.

Heather asked whether any of the Youth Cabinet would want to attend the event and it was agreed that 10 tickets would be reserved.

Harriet Potts explained what the Circles of Influence was and how people could get involved.

Harriet gave an update on the work being carried out in relation to the Youthforia.

Harriet reported that POSH were organising an environmental schools conference which was being held on Monday 3 February 2020 and would focus on environmental issues.

There was a meeting of POSH due to be held on 14 November which would be similar to the Circles of Influence but with a sole focus on environmental issues.

It was also reported that work was being carried out to arrange the clothes swop in primary schools.

Schools were being encouraged to take part in environmental work with a schools Eco Plaque being awarded to those schools that had done something for the environment.

Schools across Bury would be given the opportunity to design the plaque.

It was reported that the votes had taken place for the Make your Mark campaign.

There were two votes; the UK wide campaign and Devolved campaign.

It was reported that the successful national, UK wide campaign was ‘Protect the Environment’.

The successful devolved campaign was ‘To put an end to knife crime’.

Kyle O’Rourke reported that the New Kershaw Centre was purpose built as a youth facility and was used by a number of different youth organisations. The Young Carer’s room had been earmarked as office space which would mean that the young carers would only have use of the main hall. The young carer’s need access to 1:1 space and if the room became office space they would have nowhere to go for this. It was also explained that the Children in Care Council and Bury Stars utilise this room but nobody had been contacted or consulted on the change of use.

Barclay reported that a group of young people and volunteers had been working to bring the basketball court in Radcliffe back into use. They had been into the site and started to clear away the rubbish and weeds. It was also explained that the group were working on setting up a youth club in the area.
